This post consolidates filters, fluids, service intervals, and preventative upgrades
for the SDLE20 Yanmar diesel platform.

This does not replace OEM documentation.

Engine Oil

Capacity: ~3 quarts
Change intervals:
- First: 3–5 hours
- Break-in: 20 hours
- Ongoing: every 50 hours

Oil recommendations

Break-in: conventional diesel oil
Post break-in:
- Rotella 10W-30 (winter)
- Rotella 10W-40 (summer)
- Delo
- Delvac
- Walmart SuperTech Diesel (Warren Oil – acceptable)

Strongly recommended — protects pump from debris

Fuel additives (owner practice)

Hot Shot’s EDT — injection pump protection
SuperTech WC3 ashless 2-cycle oil
- Zinc content suppresses algae growth
- Useful for long-term storage

Hydraulic System

Hydraulic oil

Capacity: ~3 gallons
Grade: ISO 46
Replace immediately after purchase (recommended)

Change intervals

First: 3–5 hours
Then: 20 hours
Then: every 50 hours

Community upgrades

Add cow magnets inside tank
Add 10-micron spin-on return filter

Captures wear debris before it circulates

Hydraulic suction strainer

Stainless tank screen
Clean periodically

Inline high-pressure filter

Service intervals:
- 250 hours
- 600 hours
- 1200 hours

Battery & Electrical

Typical factory battery life: ~12 months
Known issue:
- Hold-down bolt rubbing battery case

Recommendations

Add acid mat under battery
Add trickle charger
Poor access → consider:
- Jump pack
- Remote terminals
- Battery relocation kit

Battery disconnect switch

Known internal failures
Upgrade recommended
Adapter plate may be required

Grease & Chassis

Replace factory zerks with standard fittings
Grease interval: every 5 hours

Cold-Weather Upgrade

Engine oil pan heater
Mounts to oil pan underside
Low cost / high payoff for winter starts
